Summer 2024 Farm Improvements!

The SLC has been busy partnering with the Pringle Creek Community Urban Farm to make some improvements to the farm area and get it ready for community education and activities.

We are grateful to local partners for providing us grant funding to implement these projects:

  • Thanks to the Willamette Health Council, we were able to prep a spot in the back of the farm and get a brand new very large storage so that we can more securely store all of the farm and garden equipment and supplies - this will help keep them safe and also frees up more space for growing and moving around in the glass houses, where we previously had to store everything.

  • Thanks to the Marion Soil & Water Conservation District, we are in the middle of upgrading the southern side of the farm where the old raised beds were rotting away and were not ideal for ongoing planting. We had dozens of neighbors volunteer over the last couple months to help take down the old beds, prepare the area, and install shiny new stock tanks that will serve as accessible and long-lasting raised garden beds for the SLC and community members to use in the future. Throughout the summer and into the fall, we’ll be planting the bed with fall veggies like kale, broccoli, and spinach, finishing the new path between the garden beds and the glass house, and planting a pollinator-friendly hedgerow of herbs and shrubs along the sidewalk. Check back soon for updates!
