SLC Board of Directors

The all-volunteer SLC Board of Directors plans and organizes events, as well as oversees the finances and day-to-day operation of the organization. They provide the planning, direction and vision to manage the daily operations of the SLC.  Current Directors include:

Betty Boyce, President - Betty joined the SLC board in spring 2021 and has served as Board President since Fall 2022. A former member of the Oregon Army National Guard with 11 years of service, Betty and her family were drawn to Salem, Oregon, where she has spent the last decade successfully running her own photography business and investing in real estate. Betty’s commitment to sustainability is deeply rooted in her belief that small, intentional changes can collectively make a significant impact for future generations. She is dedicated to fostering meaningful connections within the community to support and inspire sustainable living.

Christine Diaz - Christine joined the board in early 2024. She previously served as treasurer and secretary for other nonprofit boards, and has done extensive fundraising for a variety of nonprofit organizations, including schools, Boy Scouts, and the library. Christine is now retired but her past professional experiences as an early childhood educator, legal assistant, and bookkeeper are integral to the SLC being able to plan and implement successful projects. Since moving to the PCC because of her commitment to sustainable living, she has served on the PCC Urban Farm Committee and been active in organizing other community activities.

Jeremy Greenwood - Jeremy joined the board in Fall of 2024. Jeremy grew up on a small homestead outside of Falls City, Oregon where he gained an appreciation for growing food and living close to the land. With an engineering background in electronics and software Jeremy co-founded a 501c3 nonprofit called Spark Studio Salem in 2018, which is a local makerspace community workspace. Jeremy runs a non alcoholic beverage business focused on community and a love for biodiverse agriculture. Jeremy is passionate about sustainability because he feels this is a natural way forward for communities to thrive more now and to continue thriving for future generations.

Dennis Gutknecht, Treasurer - Dennis joined the board in early 2024, bringing extensive experience to the role of Treasurer. He has a BA in economics, an MBA in finance, and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate. Now retired, Dennis previously managed project teams evaluating government programs first for the Governmental Accountability Office and then for the Bonneville Power Administration, as well as managed an investment partnership. Dennis also serves on the PCC Urban Farm Committee, is an avid gardener, and is dedicated to developing a more sustainable community.

Sara Olsher - Sara has been a member of the board since 2024, bringing extensive experience from her work in both nonprofit and for-profit marketing. Her commitment to environmental preservation was sparked by her first job at a nonprofit dedicated to protecting public lands, inspiring a lifelong dedication to sustainability. As a board member, Sara is passionate about making sustainable practices accessible and approachable for everyone. After a breast cancer diagnosis in her early thirties, she developed a strong commitment to whole, organic foods, further reinforcing her advocacy for healthier, more sustainable living.
